Another Year, Another AMUN

As the leaves begin to fall and the temperature drops I know that another AMUN conference is nye. What is AMUN? Well besides being an Egyptian god, it is American Model United Nations. This will be my second year on staff for this wonderful conference and from next week Wednesday until Thanksgiving morning I will live, breathe, and sweat geo-political problem solving and I could not be more excited.

I have been involved with model UN clubs since high school and then continued joining the club in college which is where I found AMUN. After being the lead representative for the delegation of Pakistan in 2016, I applied to continue my model UN career on staff for AMUN.

AMUN is a collegiate model UN conference that happens each November in downtown Chicago, IL. The conference involves over 1,200 university and college students and consists of a staff of around 120. The staff is a loyal bunch of volunteers from across the United States who all fell in love with international diplomacy and the altogether experience AMUN provides.

Prepping for AMUN involves a lot of different things. This past spring I began AMUN-ing by conducting some research for one of this years topics along with writing up a brief summary which will be used by representatives to do committee research from the perspective of their country.

This year, as well as last year, my job is being a special rapporteur in a report writing body. Being a rapporteur is essentially being the frontline of the dais for representatives. Rapporteurs help representatives write up resolutions and reports for each topic along with being available to answer any questions related to the purview of the committee and each topic within.

I am set to leave for conference in two days so now it's time to pack up that western business attire and brush up on my parliamentary procedural skills as AMUN gets ready to take over Chicago!
